Rowing as A Spectator Sport in England

Rowing in England like in the U. S. and other countries has a dedicated set of participants and fans. It is a unique and exciting spectator sport. You can be close to the action, converse with other spectators, and enjoy your picnic lunch as well. The races are held on beautiful waterways such on the Thames River in Henly and the famous Royal Regatta Course.

England is famous for it's successes in the Olympics, the World Cup, and other international competitions. The Rowing clubs host professionals, amateurs, Senior Men, Senior Women, Veterans, Novices, and Juniors at their facilities to maintain an interest in the sport.

Rowing is fascinating because it is a sport of orchestrated movement. Each and every team member must do what is expected and the timing is precise.

I learned about rowing, not as an team member, but as an Assistant Manager for one of the top collegiate teams in the U.S.My favorite and most exciting and nerve racking duty was driving the double ended power boat from which the Coach gave instructions to the teams. There was always a fear on the part of the team (I think) and certainly on my part that I would get too close to the shells and swamp one or worse, crash into it.I am proud to say that we all survived unscathed.

See you in Henly!
