GARDENS IN ENGLAND
Gardens of England The England vacation for many focuses on the gardens and specific garden tours. There are some 3,500 gardens in England. Most gardens are privately owned and as the National Garden Scheme reports, they are opened to the public at certain times of the year. There are also a number of gardens open to the public throughout most of the year on a commercial basis. You can arrange a self guided garden tour by checking garden listings and schedules for gardens in a specific area or within a certain number of miles of a location where you are staying. There are many websites which can provide information. We recommend, for example, the National Garden Scheme site:www.ngs.org.uk. The site has easy to use features. One such feature reveals that there are 5 gardens within 10 miles and 35 gardens within 25 miles of Chester, England. If you wish to go to an area with the greatest number of gardens, you will find, for example, that Devon has 125 gardens and that London has 179. Armed with this information you can choose a self catering location which will facilitate your touring.
