Dining Options in England

London, England has been rated as a world class dining destination. This designation also means the top costs of eating out of most any place in the world. Self Caterers need not despair. There is wonderful food to be found throughout England. Plus, we believe that a three star rated restaurant in England usually rivals the four star locations in the U. S. For example, we chose Ludlow, Shropshire as a self catering location because it not only was in the Heart of England region we wished to vacation, but it also had several Michelin Starred restaurants. As mentioned on our planning page, a bit of internet research will enable you to find the activities in any area you wish to visit.

Since self catering provides you the option to stretch your dining monies by not having to eat all meals out, you will find you can afford to enjoy a meal at a three star restaurant now and then.

FINE DININGEnjoy fine dining at lower costs by having lunch at those better restaurants which serve lunch. You will find basically the same food, service, and atmosphere as at the evening meal. Hotel dining rooms in England enjoy a reputation for fine food with reasonable lunch prices and elegant surroundings. We had a wonderful lunch at The Feathers Hotel in Ludlow. Our eveing Dining Experience in Ludlow was at Dingham's, a Michelin Three Star rated restaurant. Check to see if there is an early fixed price meal at a reduced price. The fixed price menu can save 30 per cent off the cost of a similar ala carte dinner. We stopped for an early dinner at the Hotel Talbot in Leominster in route to Ludlow. Wonderful meal, first class service, and a reasonable price. This scene is repeated throughout England. The Locals dine at the hotels also, especially if not in an area where the tour groups stop.

GOOD DINING/PUB DININGGood dining and Pub dining are mentioned together here because of the revolution in pub dining which has taken place during the past decade. Good dining is to be found in many pubs as well in local restaurants. Ask the locals. The revolution in pub food is that groups of investors have bought many "local" pubs in the touristic areas and moved the menu in the direction of haute cuisine. Of course, the prices have moved in that direction also. There are some local pubs which still serve the traditional pub foods such as shepherd's pie, cottage pie, ploughman's lunch, fish and chips, and pasties as well as the not so delectable peas and carrots (replacement for brussel sprouts) and a slab of meat. The menus are posted outside the establishments. Review them and notice how many locals are entering the pub or restaurant.

DO IT YOURSELFYour self catering vacation allows you the choice of preparing your own meals or enjoying some wonderful already prepared which are available at the local supermarkets. Many of the gardens offer excellent lunches and teas to enjoy while on the garden tours. Take Your Own Picnic by purchasing the items you desire from the local shops and supermarkets. This enables you to sample some local cheeses, breads, meats, and other delicacies while enjoying touring or a sporting event.

Enjoy the dining experiences offered via self catering vacations.
