ADVANTAGES OF SELF CATERING VERSUS HOTELS OR BED AND BREAKFASTS Provides the opportunity to get to know the England that tourists do not see. It is economical (some cost data provided on another page). I have been visiting England since 1966. Family has joined me on trips since 1972. My wife, Anne, and I spent 6 weeks in England in Fall of 1990 and 5 weeks during Summer 2002. We will next be there during Fall 2008. Self Catering, of course. You have a "home away from home" Your own schedule for breakfast, site seeing, or touring Save money and time by having breakfast or dinner "at home" Lunch at more expensive restaurants can cost one-half a dinner meal and provide a wonderful dining experience No need to unpack and pack frequently Live in a small city or village Meet and talk with the locals, visit local pubs, restaurants, shops, supermarkets, the hairdressers. My wife obtains lots of information about local happenings at the beauty saloon. The locals enjoy telling you of the interesting things things to do and see and recommend places to eat. NOTE: They do respect your privacy and tend not to volunteer information. Introduce yourself and chat with them. They look forward to helping. Your landlord is often on site and will be a wonderful source of information about the local area. Of course, it is wonderful to have that morning coffee, tea, and breakfast in your private garden as well as the afternoon coctail if you choose.
