Spectator Sports
Spectator sports are always in season in all of England. These range from the major sports of football, rugby, horse racing, cricket, tennis, and powerboat racing. You will also find many local sports clubs competing in these sports as well as some of the quieter sports such as lawn bowling. We once enjoyed a spirited competition between uniformed teams of senior citizens bowlers while visiting Bude, Cornwall. Our self-catering home was near Holsworthy, North Devon. Football (soccer) is the national game and the season runs from August to April. Arrange for tickets early and search various websites for discounts. Be prepared for energetic crowds. Ruby may not be as popular as football, but it has devoted followers and is an exciting spectator sport. You can watch the major teams or local teams. Some of the local matches provide great entertainment at no cost. Tennis, Wimbledon anyone? There are many other tennis venues in England one can enjoy. Check out the local scene. Horse Racing is described more fully in a page devoted to it. Motor Racing can be seen on a number of tracks in England. Powerboat racing is a growing sport in England. Powerboat racing provides excitement and suspense because of the ever present danger of a boat crashing with the accompanying acrobatic looking out of control movements. See the specific pages for more sports information. So, get out and enjoy!
